Prosphora Baking: Feb 15, 2025

Ever wanted to bake prophora without accidentally inventing a new kind of liturgical doorstop? Join our hands-on baking workshop and learn the sacred art of making loaves that actually rise, stamps that don’t look like ancient hieroglyphs, and bread that won’t break Father’s fast or his molars.

When? Saturday, February 15, 2025 @ 10am (instruction will be for a few hours, and lunch will be served — this is hands-on training).

RSVP is required. There is a printed sign-up sheet in the narthex. Elizabeth Pedersen is leading this training and needs to know in advance if you’re attending so she can purchase sufficient ingredients.

What is prosphora? Prosphora is the small loaf of leavened bread that is used during the Divine Liturgy each Sunday.

I don’t know how to bake bread, is that a problem? Not at all! If you can mix flour and water without setting off the smoke alarm, you’re already ahead of the game. All that’s needed is your RSVP and a willingness to learn.

I am interested in learning, but don’t want to commit to actually baking this for services. Of course! There is no commitment beyond your RSVP to attend (because they will be purchasing ingredients) — just an opportunity to learn. With that said, if Elizabeth sees potential, she may start dropping hints 😀
